VERNAL EQUINOX 2012

Photo of a pyramid shaped rock I found on top of mountain this morning on March 20, 2012.

We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed,
as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn,
and the day star arise in your hearts.
2 Peter 1:19

Today is the Vernal Equinox.. Vernal, or the latin word vernalis meaning "of the spring".. and Equinox translated literally, means "equal night." Because the Sun is positioned above the equator, day and night are about equal in length. Today is a day of balance. Equal light, equal dark. Starting tomorrow our days will get longer with more sunlight.  I thought this photo was best to post today to show the balance between light and shadow. Hopefully in the next few days I will have time to share more photos from today.

It is also probably no coincidence that early Egyptians built the Great Sphinx so that it points directly toward the rising Sun on the day of the vernal equinox

  1. What a beautiful sight. Was this what your first day of spring looked like? For some reason where I live, we had some incredible lightening storms, that literally lit up the sky. Have you pictures of lightening?
Thank you for you explation of what vernal equinox means. I have always wanted to know.
